SOPHISTICATES and DRAMA QUEENS Round 2 Results

WOW, three upsets here, I have to say! Things like this just make this tournament more exciting, really.

Vivien Leigh, who won the entire 1940s era, last year, unfortunately lost to Gene Tierney. I was very shocked to see this, but what a fight Gene put up and won, too!

Two other upsets occurred with Olivia de Havilland beating out Katharine Hepburn, and Lauren Bacall beating Ingrid Bergman. However, the reigning drama queen, Bette Davis, beat her opponent, as was expected.

These are the final vote counts for this part of the tournament:

Vivien Leigh vs. Gene Tierney 44-51
Ingrid Bergman vs. Lauren Bacall 37-54
Bette Davis vs. Joan Fontaine 58-39
Katharine Hepburn vs. Olivia de Havilland 44-54

P.S. FUNNY LADIES/GIRLS NEXT DOOR and SINGERS/DANCERS polls for Round 2 will be up tomorrow =)

Results of Part 2 of Round 1!

And the polls have officially closed for the end of Round 1 of 1940s era of the 2012 Favorite Classic Movie Actress tournament! We already know the finalists for Round 1 of the first two categories, but this is how it turned out for Round 1 for the FUNNY LADIES/GIRLS NEXT DOOR and SINGERS/DANCERS categories.

Rosalind Russell vs. Jeanne Crain 58-17
(I knew our girl Roz could do it, and she knocked it out of the park!)

Jane Wyman vs. Donna Reed 47-43
(This one was a close match all the way through. Sometimes when I checked, Jane was winning, and sometimes Donna was winning. What a match!)

Lucille Ball vs. Maureen O’Hara 53-37
(I have to say, this one was the most interesting for me. Lucy seemed to be losing pretty badly in the beginning, but then she really went ahead and got quite a few votes and won out in the end)

Eve Arden vs. Teresa Wright 35-27

(Funny lady Eve Arden and Girl next door Teresa Wright battled each other in this one, and Eve had the lead most of the time, but it was still pretty close)

Judy Garland vs. Margaret O’Brien 57-12

(This probably isn’t too surprising. The one and only Judy Garland beat out Margaret O’Brien by an astonishing 45 votes)

Betty Grable vs. June Allyson 39-25

(This one was also a fairly close match, but Betty’s million dollar legs beat out June’s girl-next-door smile in the end)

Rita Hayworth vs. Hedy Lamarr 48-19

(I wasn’t sure how this one would play out, but Rita really beat out Hedy in this match of the beautiful bombshells)

Ann Miller vs. Virginia Mayo 34-24

(Ann had the lead on Virginia the entire way, but it was a pretty good match)

P.S. Round 2 with the finalists of Round 1 will begin on Monday, March 12th. See you then 🙂
